Myanmar maid (domestic worker) Khaing Yinmyo is a nanny, cook and a
housekeeper too. She is now available for a quick hire.
Background
From Yangon, she is 27 years old and married but has no children yet. Her
husband is an electrician and so is her father. She is the youngest of 4
children and the only girl in the family. She has a secondary education
(Standard 10) equivalent to our "O" level.
Work History
Before coming to Singapore she had worked briefly at
a clerical position one. In Singapore she worked for two employers at
different times, as follows:
- From May 09 until Jan 10 she worked for an extended family
consisting of 8 persons:
- Anna and Spouse
- Anna's Mother-in-law and Father-in-law (Grandpa and Granny)
- Anna's 3 children aged 15, 13 and 12
- Anna's unmarried sister-in-law.
Of the 5 adults in the family, only Granny was not working. She was in her
70's and not good health. She passed away 8 months later and Yinmyo Khaing
transferred out to another family. Yinyo had established a rapport with the
old lady and felt it best for her to work for another family.
Besides taking care of or helping to take care of the old lady, Yinmyo also
did the cooking, laundry/ironing and general cleaning. She learnt to cook
Chinese food from Anna's sister-in-law.
- Her next host family was small - the parents and their 5-year old
daughter. Madam stayed at home and she could take care of her own child
without Yinmyo's help if she needed to. Perhaps she felt that Yinmyo was
under-employed and so she asked Yinmio to clean her mother's house. She was
at this job for less than 2 weeks!
As MOM does not allow an employer to deploy her foreign domestic work in
more than one location, Madam's lost her privilege of employing a foreign
domestic worker when it was discovered that Yinmyo was working in 2 separate
houses.
MOM has given Yinmyo leave to seek alternative employment.
Childcare Experience
While in Myanmar, being the youngest in the family, she was asked to help
take care of an older brother's newborn daughter while her sister-in-law
attended to her shop. As a paid childminder, she worked for a family with 3
children who were fairly independent. However, Yinmyo is pleasant and
personable and in my opinion should be able to get along with young children
of elementary school age or younger.
Cooking
Yinmyo learnt to cook Chinese food from her first employer Anna's
sister-in-law and spent about 8 months cooking for Anna's extended family.
Yinmyo thinks she did a good job at cooking Chinese food. She can cook
dishes such as:
- Steamed fish
- Chicken curry
- Stir fried vegetables
- Fried rice, fried noodles, vermicelli
This does not sound like much, but she probably knows more. It is just that
her spoken English need polishing up so one would be able to understand her
more easily. However, the test of the pudding is in the eating - even if one
does not know its name.
Personality and proficiency in English
Yinmyo is pleasant and unassuming, neatly dressed. Her spoken English needs
some improving, but she can communicate in simple English. Her standard of
English is perhaps about average for a Myanmar domestic worker.
