Myanmar maid (domestic worker) Htweyu Khaing is a nanny and a housekeeper
too. She is now available. From Yangon, she is 26 years old and single.
Background
From the outskirts of Yangon, Htweyu (pronounced Tway You) is the youngest
among 8 children. Her father is a farmer. Like most Burmese domestic workers
in Singapore, she is a Buddhist. She has a secondary education (Standard
10).
Although she was taught English, she is not at all fluent in the language.
In fact her standard of English is very basic, if that.
Work History
She has only one year of working experience, as a domestic helper in
Singapore, from December 2008 until December 2009. Her duties were simple,
but she was deployed illegally in two separated houses.
Her nominal employer's extended family consisted of 6 persons living in two
houses. Htweyu stayed in one house (Granny's) from Monday morning until
Friday evening when she stayed with her nominal employer Mdm X. Her duties
were cleaning, laundry and ironing. Childcare was not required as Madam's
children were in the mid- to late-20's. She did not have to cook, but
helped out in the kitchen.
According to MOM regulations, a foreign domestic helper (FDW) may only work
in the house of the nominal employer (Mdm X in this case). For breaching
this rule, Mdm X lost the privilege of employing an FDW and so Htweyu is
free to seek alternative employment.
Conclusion
Htweyu, while not as experienced or fluent in English as most of the
domestic helpers on this page, she is not demanding, but nevertheless is
better than a first-time domestic from Myanmar.
She has:
- passed the Entry Test required of all first-time FDW> Those who fail have to go home and thus cause employer some
inconvenience.
- she has got by with her rudimentary English for one year working for a
Chinese extended family.
- she has done her Safety Awareness Course required of all first-timers.
Her next employer will not have to undergo the
inconvenience of arranging for a SAC for her.
