How will I know if the maid can cook if I cannot rely on her reference?

After reading Alice's letter about Betta Tuday, I now realise that some employer do give their less perfect maids a less than accurate reference, exaggerating their soon-to-be-jobless maid's abilities.

So how can I tell if the FDW I wish to employ is really a good cook?

Gourmet
